Question Engine Fail Safe Mode

I have a 2004 f15o crew cab lariat, It has 6k miles on it. I have been having a problem with the engine fail safe mode during start up. I took it to the dealer they found nothing, its there again, because the engine light went on after the fail safe mode kicked in 2 times yesterday. they are cold starts, I was told that engine fail safe mode is for overheating but these were cold starts. has anyone else had this type of problem with this new truck and is there a remedy?

Hey resohf150...sorry to hear of the troubles...there have been threads sometime back in April/May on this. Do a search "fail safe" and "limp home".

From what I've seen, some conditions were caused by a bad throttle body (replacing same cured the problem), or a bad oil temp sensor in the oil pan (sensor is integral w/ pan so pan must be replaced).

If neither of these are the cause, please make sure you update us with your fix!! And although this condition must be extremely frustrating, I'm sure it'll get fixed soon...so please hang in there!!

Good luck, and let us know the outcome!! -Don

Mine did this a few months after buying mine. It started with the wrench light coming on a few times then it went to the check engine light. It did it when I started the truck. After the check engine light came on, it stayed on.

I took the truck in and all they had to do was flash the PCM with an updated version. It has been about 4 months since then and I haven't had the problem since.
