My son has a 87 Ford F150. The truck spins over but acts like its not getting any gas. We tested the fuel pump, its getting gas, we bypassed the relay and the truck will start and run. So we bought a fuel injection relay, thought this may the problem. The truck is still doing the same thing. Can someone help in solving this problem.
Look for the inertia switch and see if it is tripped. Also test for voltage at the relay to make sure it is getting power. Likely is not a problem with the computer.
Currently what we did, was wire the fuel pump off a toggle switch. With out a diagram we are unsure if we change the correct relay, (which was tested) The holder we are in question about has two relay's in it. Without one the truck runs, when the other is pulled the truck will die (the new relay). What is the purpose of the other relay? Could this actually be the problem?
The green relay is for the fuel pump; the brown one is for the computer power. If you pull either one, the engine should die. Look up under the dash behind the brake pedal and see if the inertia switch is tripped. Also if you need a wiring diagram, I have one I could email you. That might make it easier to test electrical connections.

if you pull the FP's relay it will stay running for about 6 seconds or so. i did this on my 95 mustang and it kept running for about 6-10 seconds and then started to choke out. maybe that is why he says only one makes the truck die.
don't replace unless needed, i have never seen a relay go bad. first check the inertia switch. it is under the dash somewhere but i don't know the exact place. then if the button is not tripped, open up the correct relay and turn the key on and see if it moves or clicks or the pump primes the injectors. when you open the relay's cap it may be a little hard, some relays are glued shut but don't worry, by taking the cap off it will not hurt it. i do it all the time. with the right on off make it contact itself using you finger. just push the contacts together and listen for a click or a fuel pump whine. if nothing happens still then you may have a short in between the relay and pump or like i said earlier a bad fusible link. do this test with the key in the on position just incase.
