Power steering leaks
Both of my Aerostars (93 AWD) have power steering leaks. Doesn't appear to be from the pump. Is it usually the high pressure hose? Any suggestion on where the likely culprit is?

Usually from the steering input shaft seal. Seal can be replaced but that means pulling the entire unit. I get a quarter sized spot overnight and have just decided to let it bleed, fluid is cheap.

As near as I can tell, it is the pump that's leaking (maybe where the plastic body meets the metal body?). Are these that hard to change? Of course, that's a relative question on an Aerostar!!

Sorry, I haven't had the "pleasure" of exchanging the P/S pressure lines and can offer no specific advice. I did change out a high pressue line in a 92 Taurus recently and had to pull nearly every component out of the top end to permit the steel line to be removed/replaced without kinking the tubing. I can't honestly recall whether the Aerostar line runs directly to the steering box or if it goes under the front of the engine and loops back along the rear cross member to the steering box. Just food for thought.

On mine, the pressure line was leaking at the pump body. Wait till it needs fluid and pull the line off the pump body. on the line end there is an O-ring inside the draw nut. Replace the )-ring and clean the whole shebang real good. RTV the draw nut at assembly and you should be good to go.
