Cement Highway

Has anyone ever fouund a way to reduce the bouncing on cement highways? I have a 04 F350, crew, powerstroke that will make your teeth chatter on some streches. This is my 15th Ford Crew, and it is the worst yet. I'm going to change tires, maybe a different size, but that is all I can think of.

Anyone ever tried different shocks? Maybe a second set of shocks?

FYI.. I know when I lifted my truck. I added aftermarket trac bars to dampen the wheel hop. Which is most likely what is happening to you. Does bouncing decrease with more weight? If so, just try trac bars. More shocks can actually make it stiffer, as apposed to smoother. My .02

Maybe a little lower air pressure in your tires? I dunno, just a thought.

The reason you feel like you are bouncing on concrete roads (there are no cement highways) is due to the expansion joints and a contractor that probably didn't do a real good job. The expansion joint points are probably somewhat elavated in relation to the "flat" areas of the road.

You have probably noticed that the boucning sensation is exaggerated on elevated bridges. This is due to the flexural strength (in addition to the expansion joints) of bridge concrete poured on a steel pad. This concrete actually flexes under stress / load.

Typically, asphalt roads have no expansion joints.

This is the end of your highway construction class 101 for the day. Out of the kindness of my Texican heart there will be no homework assignments due to the Labor Day weekend.

BTW: I will take this opportunity to wish EVERYONE a safe, enjoyable, 6.0 trouble-free weekend.

Change speeds

I've noticed the bouncing in my 04 F350 DRW CC but I can change the severity of the bounce by changing my speed. Two or 3 mph can make a world of difference.

On some long pulls, when I am real tired of the bounce, I pulll to the left...put all 5 tires on the left, over on the sholder...just for a break

If anyone knows anything about the Edelbrock shocks would they PM me please? Just trying to get some feedback without starting a shock "war" . I've seen the Bilstein's mentioned and the Rancho's and was wondering if the Edelbrock's were worth their salt?

You betcha. Get away from the vibration period that accentuates the bounce when the joints come a just the right time. Like a kid on a swingset, each joint bumps right when the truck needs a push to bounce best. I find 64MPH annoying, but 74MPH better. 78 is better still, but I'm afraid of tickets. Hey, you don't suppose state highway administrations space those joints to encourage speeding and ticket revenue? Nah.

Don"t worry about the shocks. Try a product called "velvet rides". There after market shackels that do a world of good. Best 159.00 bucks I've spent on my truck. There from Lord Corparation. My bounce-O-meter { wife } tells me they worked.

Does a 03' F-350 SC LB 4X4 SRW 6.0 with 8" of spring lift, dual front shocks, and 38" tires come close??? Do you get the snapping of neck action too?? I must says it's nice to have that much bounce with females in the truck...
