Matt, P1309 refers to the camshaft position sensor (CMP). It's located either at the rear of the engine (ohv), or on the left valve cover (sohc). There's a testing procedure for it in the Haynes manual, involving checking for output voltage with a voltmeter. If you need the procedure, give us your engine type.
The code can be caused by a bad CMP, broken wiring connection, or the PCM itself. It's probably a bad CMP.

thank you very much don for the reply, 2 weeks ago I pulled out the whole unit so I could clean it and lube it, now that it is back in it is throwing a code, the first thing that I will check is the wiring and that it is plugged in completley then if not is there any way to put it back in out of sync?
Matt, I assume you have the SOHC engine with the CMP on the valve cover? I don't think you can get it out of alignment unless the drive itself is removed. On the OHV engine, there's a special alignment tool that's used to reinstall the drive.
I believe the code refers to a loss of signal, so it's indeed possible that the plug isn't seated properly. Hope it's as simple as that. Let us know.
