What is the stock alternator on a 2000 Ranger with the 3.0 V6 rated for?
I have a JL Audio 500/1 on a 10W7 and a 300/4 on highs and it can turn off the headlights and pull the battery down to 9 volts if it is slamming and pulling a full 80 amps.
I am getting ready to upgrade the wiring from the alternator to the battery, but i think its going to need more than that. I am thinking that a Stinger 200 amp with a 1 farad cap will help, but i need to know where i am starting at.
don't worry about it. getting a high output alternator is expensive. Why don't you get a battery isolator and put a second battery in. That way you don't have to worry about it.
My problem is that the stereo can pull 80 amps, which means with the engine and lights running at night, its taking all the alternators extra output that the engine isn't using and some of the battery's reserve. It'll be still be draining both batteries more than charging them.

Becuase neither fix the problem, in fact they make it worse.
Your stock alt is gettin its butt kicked. Adding another item for it to deal with only makes it worse. Sure, less light dim, but also less alt life.
4alterstart sells great HO alts for the right prices.
