Post Engine Shop Please Help

Ok basically my dad bought a 1983 ish ford F150 short bed which had a blown engine. He then decided that he would want to put a bigger engine in. so he went and bought a new engine (rebuilt). and took out the old, he then got everything ready for the swap. But now he doesn't really know where anything goes. the engine is in the truck but he doesn't know where everything hooks up. If anybody knows a good shop to take the truck to please let me know. I rather have is a working truck then a truck just taking up space.
I'm located in Los Angeles CA.

Most of the stuff is self explanatory, just look at each shall we say "leftover" connector/line/hose. It's only so long, try reaching it to were you think it might go, anyway, nearly all of it will only fit in one place with the exception of some vacuum hoses. There are pictures posted in the site, can't remember were. Your best bet would be to get a book for the truck, if that's not possible, can you take pictures and post them?

You could also find someone with a similiar year model truck and engine, tell them your predicament and ask if you can take pics of their engine compartment.

Get a manual such as Haynes or Chilton. It'll help alot.

well the problem is that it's not the same size engine. It has some different hose connections and such. so i'm really unsure of myself......

What did he take out, what size motor did he put in? Gas, Diesel? The motor is already fully installed, on the motor mounts, hooked to the tranny and all it needs is vacuum hoses, sensors hooked up etc? Carb or EFI? Same compatiable years on the old engine and new engine electronics OBD-I 80-95 or did he cross over to OBD-II from 96 on?

I am out at Edwards Air Force Base and "MIGHT" look at it this weekend as I am going to LA anyway in my 86 truck and have a Haynes, Diagnostic etc. Again, Might, no promises. It all depends on how long a job we are looking at as I have some stuff I need to get done in LA but itr almost sounds like a quick finish barring major fuel line mods to make it reach larger engine inlets, major wiring harness changes etc. If it is simple hookup, start up and code read to make sure things are straight, we might be able to get it running at least and then leave you to finish getting the bugs out, prettying things up etc.

Good Luck,

Lee

thanks, the motor is fully installed on the motor mounts, and hooked to the tranny save one bolt which my dad couldn't reach (i'll see if i can get it in tommorrow.) it's a carb. And i'm pretty sure everything is compatiable. I don't know exactly how to post the pic's but i have them. I'm using Imagestation here is the link:

to me everything looks like just a mess of wires and hoses. Thanks for all your help

I have an EFI so we won't be able to compare engines and thus will have to use the Haynes and "hope' it is right on the wiring.

You never said which engine the swap was. 302 for a 351? 400? 429 ( I can dream -g-)

Also, is the decal that shows the vacuum hoses still there by the hood latch? That is a great help though I think the Haynes has it also. Mine is in the garage so I can't look right now.

If you clean the wires or at least spray the insulation with some water or WD-40 so you can tell the colors, I can let you know what goes to what sensor from my diagram via this board, e-mail or PM

===================

Apparently I am supposed to take my kids to the AV fair tomorrow. Not sure what your situation is as far as work but I took some vacation time this week to sand down my truck for a paint job later but as I said, I need to run to LA to get some things so still might be able to make it Sunday or early next week. PM me if it is used on this board. If not, use the contact administrator link at http://marketswing.com/forum/ to e-mail me.
