My dad has a 95 Aerostar and takes great maintence care of the vehicle. Lately he has been having the check engine light come on
while accelerating on upgrade. The light goes out once going down hill for a bit. He has taken it in and was told they couldn't check it unless it was on when he brought it in. I have read many of the questions and comments on this subject on this forum but none seem to apply to this particular situation.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
A 'Check Engine' light will also produce a stored error code that can be retrieved whether or not the light is on. Of course, you need a scanner to access the data as well as some patience and time to learn how to use it. They run around $35 at most parts stores.
From the information provided, it could be any of a number of causes, however, the most likely candidate would be the mass air flow sensor (MAF)found on the air tunnel just after the airfilter. There have been many postings on this subject, but you may have to scroll to find them if the search feature is inoperative. Often, just cleaning this item will solve your problem. Rarely do they require replacing.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Aug-02 AT 06:01 PM (EST)]Try follow this link to find out the error code and post back. It shows you how to get code without a scan tool.
