Just wondering if others here have had, or know of anyone having wear problems with their front brakes on the 03 F150's. I have roughly 24k miles on mine, and and will have to replace them within 2 or 3k miles. I drive fairly easy, don't ride the brakes, maybe have 2k miles towing, most of that on highway, one trip. To say the least I am very disappointed. I would expect a minimum of 50k on factory pads, probably more.
Since Racerguy seems to be our resident expert, maybe he can shed some light.
Resident expert? shhhh dont get that rumor started!
Did you check the pads yourself or rely on someone else to measure them?
I've seen some people check brakes and say there was only a few % left when in reality there was lots left.
The brakes on these trucks usually last pretty long.
A couple things that can wear out front pads though are if the caliper slides are sticky so the calipers dont return as freely as they should and back brakes that aren't working properly which causes the fronts to do all the work.
Thanks Dave. I haven't 'measured' them, just visual check. Rotors seems ok, some grooving perceptible to a fingernail check. Brake performance seems ok as well. Definitely have more wear on the fronts than rear, again just visual check. No problems during the winter driving with the backend wanting to pass me up, nor any problem detected with anti lock.
I guess I'll take it to the dealer and let them check the brakes on my next oil change. I just don't have the time these days to do even minor maintenance. So far this is the only possible issue I have had with the truck since buying it new in April of 03.
You do know the definition of "Expert", don't you? Break the word down. "ex", meaning has been, and "spert" being a drip under pressure.
