Tranny Swap
I have a 1967 F100, 240Ci, 3 spd on column. I would like to replace the tranny with an automatic now and later on replace the motor with a 302v8.
What do you recommend I use, C4 or C6. It will be a daily driver. Also,
will the bell housings for either fit the 6 cyc. engine I have now with little or no modifications. Is there anything else I should be aware of.

you will need the driveshaft, radiator, steering column, shift linkage, automatic flexplate, and a c6 tranny. the bellhousing is the same 240-351w, only thing differant is the flexplate. you may have to cut the rivets off the crossmember between the radius arm brackets, and replace them with grade 8 bolts too. some are bolted, some are riveted.

Would you know if a C6 or C4 would attach to my current 240 6cyl engine. I would like to install the automatic now and later on go to an eight (when I win the lottery). Would the bell housing bolts line up.
I also plan on putting in a floor shift and do away with the column shift.

You can get a C6 that will bolt to a 302. The 240 and 300 6 cylinders have the same bellhousing as the 289, 302, so transmissions will swap between the small V8's and 6's.
Easy way to find the C6 you want are to call salvage yards in your area and ask for a C6 that will fit a 302. Also, check out some Ford site's classifieds. Some parts of the country they seem to be more plentiful than others, judging by what is said on the boards.
A C4 should be real easy to find. Yards in my area want $150-200 for a C4.
With some luck, you might be able to get a cheap (or free) parts truck with a V8 and auto trans. A friend of a friend is giving me a 79 F100 just to get it out of his yard. I plan on swapping in Disc brakes, power steering, automatic, etc. If you have a place (or a friend with a place) to store a parts truck, you might be able to get what you need fairly cheap.
