Has anyone had to replace their vent window handle? Mine has broken off and am wondering how to get the glass out. Someone in the forum I belive said to heat the frame and the glass will slide out.
Took it to glass shop, they wanted $60.00 to remove glass and then reinstall.
I don't know what year you have, but my 54 vent windows refused to budge so I slowly heated the frames with a propane torch until the rubber was soft. (Note: I did this with them totally removed from the door.) By slipping a thin screwdriver in between the bottom edge of the glass and the flat spot at the bottom of the frame. By gently pushing, the glass eased out. You should wear good gloves and safety glasses. The glass may break as it is heated and stressed. If you replace the glass, note the tint color as there are several to choose from. Good luck, John
Hispeed - First, go to another glass shop. I had to put handles back in both vents of my 56. My glass guy only charged $20 to R&R both sides. He didn't use any heat to do it. When he put it back in, he just slid them into new seals made from some standard material he had in his shop stock.
I had him remove the glass, then I took out the vent frames.
I tried to re-stake the handle posts, but couldn't get it done, so I tack welded (MIG) the handle post to the frame, sand blasted the cruddy frames down to bare metal and painted all. Looks super.
