i am driving a 1993 ranger 4 x4 with 4.0 v6. I am not sure what kind of transmission it has. i know it is not electronicaLLY controlled. Does anyone know how to adjust the shift into overdrive? on my full size truck you could do that with the cable but the haynes manual does not say how on the ranger. it shifts into overdrive at 50 miles per hour......i really want it to shift in at 45 miles perhour. it would just feel better. does anyone know how. Thanks, Kent
The tranny should be A4LD.
Try searching "A4LD O/D adjustment".
AL.
On Edit: Heard tell that if you disconnect the battery for 15-20 minutes, then reconnect & drive the way you want the tranny to shift, it will relearn the shift points???
I still havn't been able to come up with anything. I did have the battery unhooked a while back but it didn't change the shift point because i can' tmake it shift any sooner. maybe i'll get some other ideas off of this post over the weekend. thanks very much , Kent

My guess, and it IS a guess is that the computer is getting some information from one or more of the sending units that is keeping it in gear and not allowing the shift up.
Have you installed oversize tires? If not then Maybe you could look to the tune-up and other sending uints to the computer.

Normally most Ford transmissions will shift into O/D as low as 40 mph under light to normal acceleration. I'll have to look in my Ford transmission spec book and see if it lists the normal shift points in it.
