HI I'm new at this, I need help with my 1996 Ford Bronco Eddie Bauer, I have checked all my bulbs in my truck, and I have checked power to the module for my cruise control. And is still does not work, it did work on a long trip to landcaster. It did work and went on and off about three times and since then it does work. I would like to know if theres a relay or anything else I can check on it.
Your cruise works off of vacuum. There should be like a plastic ball with vacuum lines going to it as well as the cable for the cruise ot the TB. Check for cracks in the ball or for that matter, check the hoses themselves. If you lose even a little vacuum in those lines, your cruise will not work.
The electronic cruise control is a mixed blessing - it is very simple, but inside the black box much is hidden...
The black box holds all of the magic bits - module and servo. If you are pretty sure the box is bad, they're only about $30-$40 in salvage yards. Make sure you compare cable lengths - the boxes will work as long as they plug in, but the cables were different from vans to pickups, and among the different engines. It's worth a shot.
With key on unplug wire plug to electronic servo(no vac on this)with test light lead grounded, stick probe into each wire terminals-2 will be hot(12 volts) key off only 1 will be hot (brake lights), if only 1 is hot with key on look for a bad fuse(2 fuse boxes- engine comp. and interior box) Bad clock spring can cause cruise to be inop.-symptoms are no horn, air bag light on dash, cruise inop. Bad actuator cable is poss(unhooked, frayed, broken) .-Undo-twist cable(push unlock tab) off servo -is it intact? is the inside of servo full of white dust- poss bad servo, alum oxidation contamination.Of course you looked to see if brake lights worked first?? Also unplug pressure switch at master cylinder and jumper with wire to see if it works -Hope this helps- I put fuses, clocksprings and servos in this setup as most common repair fixes!!
Hi I Checked Brake Lights, unplug Pressure Switch And Jumped With Wire It Workes, I Checked All Fuses And Still Nothing. What Is Clockspring And Were Is It Located.
my 95,351, cruise control crapped out and it was the cruise control servo, basically the black box, bought a new one for, $181.00, easy switch out and eveything works fine.....hope this helps...
Steering wheels used to have a round copper plate attached to bottom of steering wheel (can be seen with wheel removed) that made contact with spring loaded brushes bolted to column-in turn connecting rotateing steering wheel with column wires. Clockspring basicly connects steering wheel horn-cruise, and air bag wiring to the column wiring by using a plastic (round) housing bolted to top of column with a wire ribbon (plastic film with wires inbedded in)- center indexes to bottom of steering wheel, thus rotating in center of clockspring NOTE ribbon MUST be centered with steering wheel- if not ribbon will be to short on left or right turn and rip(I would not recommend a used one-clockspring- UNLESS you removed yourself and taped it centered. The idea is in case of wreck steering wheel and column separation(wheel pulling away from column-thus brushes on old style not making contact) does not break contact and air bag will still work!!!! Did you ever check for power on 2 of the wires as I said before on servo (mounted on left inner fender with cable -throttle- and rec. shaped wire plug????
You said it worked when you bypassed switch? Replace the pressure switch I had one that was bad from dealer when I bought it to replace my bad one and had to replace it again
Mweeps- maybe I missed Bronco Gile saying--- it workes???.Yeah if it worked with pressure switch jumped, or completing circuit, the Brake pressure switch is bad and MUST be replaced .Note this cuts cruise off when hitting brakes so you won't slam into the back of somebody.I just read about clockspring and didn't think of Giles earlier statement, SORRY
