I'd guess that it's likely not a Powerstroke or DT444. More than likely it's an IDI444 or 7.3 without turbo and without direct injection.
Basically if it's got a turbo on top, it's probably a Powerstroke or the early version of it.
The non powerstroke 7.3 liter is a pretty reliable engine but has no where near the power of the turbo direct injected powerstroke. Fortunately, it's a little cheaper to work on than the PSD's. You can buy a set of rebuilt injectors for an IDI for what 1 costs for the PSD.
The easy way to tell is to look at the engine and if its got a cover that says "Direct injection" its a powerstroke. Another way to tell is to look at the VIN #, 8th digit should be a "F" for a powerstroke. "K" for a idi turbo and I think a "M" for a na idi.
I can't say "I" cuz its my parents. but "they" (there name, I just rod on it) have a 93 IDI 7.3 5 speed and theres has a turbo, so dont be looking just at the turbo or no turbo, look for the previous mentioned "Direct Injection" emblem over the engine. If you know your way around an engine you can look for an injector pump and lines, the older 6.9 and IDI 7.3 used em. look for a mess of steel lines, 8 actually, usually painted engine color, running from a circular pattern on top of the engine off teh back of the injector pump to the individial injectors, located right next to the valve covers, on the top of the engine.
