Phat,
first... acquire and fill out to the best of your ability a second mortgage application from the financial institution of your choice..
now that should get you started...
seriously... any 460 will fit... the engine room is huge in these trucks. Lots of big size fords and lincolns have 460s... mine came from a '76 Lincoln Mark IV the later the model... the lower the compression (read the bigger the dog) and more work needs to be done to make it respectable... flat top pistons, head work etc... it's not undoable... but the earlier engines had a higher C.R. and better breathing heads... but also they are harder to find without that second mortgage thing to back you up... Motor mounts will have to be changed/fabbed. L&L motorsports out in Texas sells them but they are not hard to fab up either... Transmission support will have to be changed probably and I'd consider going with a IFS up front, although the straight axle would probably handle the 700+ pounds ok.. It's a heavy engine !!
I like your choice... add the C-6 that comes with it and you've got a house moving sideline going... these things make mountains of torque... dent the rear of the cab with yo head torque... with very little work... The parts are more expensive than SBC parts... but being pressed back in the seat that way is worth it.... you can see a mount up on my page on mine...
Phat, Welcome to the 460 bunch. Great engine, loves gas. I get about 10 mpg with mine and it still is a low compression smoger out of a 78 LTD. It does make gobs of torque. I used the C6 tranny also. Jniolon is right about costs being higher to build up than some other engines, but even with the dog my engine is it still is fun when you push the go pedal, and I'm running mine in an F250. I originally was going to tow with it, but the truck just isn't stable enough at higher speeds with a trailer behind it. It's okay, but not at interstate speeds.
