hello to all

my first post! hello to all. what a great website.

i recently bought a sweet '77 F150 with a 351M. it's in excellent condition - very drivable. i've been scouring the internet looking for some easy and affordable ways of giving my truck some power. right now, it's sluggish and the kick down gear isn't kicking down. all i want is to be able to hold my own on the road.

i'm pretty sure i don't have a retarded ignition timing problem -- and i don't want to nor can afford to replace the 351M with another engine. i've read up on replacing cam shafts -- but since i've never done that, i don't know what i'm looking for. any specifics on cams or any other good ideas?

~$200/month budget~

is it a 4x4 or 4x2? how are you gonna use it? putting a new cam wil help a great deal. it all about making it breathe better. go to Jegs.com and order a free magazine. they have a lot of stuff for our motors. Do headers first, then cam & lifters, then save for a bit and pick up a intake manifold and carb combo. But try the sponsers for parts to. after all they are the ones that let us be here & have such a wonderful site where we can gather. Look for the best deal don't just buy the first one cause you have the money. Check jeffsbroncograveyard.com for parts too. they have parts for full size too. headers are reasonable there. i'm darn near on the same budget cause of i only work 8 months a year cause of construction. hope this all helps and welcome to our site. much help and info is here.

thanks for the sources. it's a white LWB 2WD F150. I read up on the old posts and one guy said he didn't "match" the stuff he put on there and it was a waste of money for him. I didn't want to dive into something and have no idea what i was seeking.

All i want is to be able to drive it around and know that it can take most "rice burners" on the road... so nothing too out there for me.

given that, are there any specific items that would be a must need for me?

Watch those rice burners, some of them have 300+ ponies and half the weight you have. The only ones you can take with a truck are the wannabe ricers.

Hi, you might make sure your vacuum line to the tranny modulator is in good shape and the kick down linkage bar is attatched to the carb and tranny.
