MY '98 XLT 4X4 came with Goodyear Wrangler RTS's and it wandered all over the road. Thought it was normal for a truck since this was my first truck. When they wore out I replaced them with Michelin Crossterrains. Tracks perfectly straight. Never had the truck aligned nor tires rotated. Have 58,000 miles on these tires and they all are worn evenly.
This has been a much discussed and debated topic over the years. Ford designed the steering more for comfort rather than for feel or for performance. I didn't like the feel of my steering, so I added a steering stabilizer and new shocks. Now I couldn't be happier. You can also change the feel with variations in tire pressures.
Were the tires rotated during this service? Check the air pressure in all 4 tires, correct to the factory-recommended spec found on the driver's door sticker and re-evaluate. Expys don't like high front tire pressure. It's one type of animal at 30 PSI front, a completely different creature at 35 PSI front.
