that's somthing I'd like to know, too. My preferred autobahn speed is between 130 and 140 km/h but sometimes I need to go downhill real fast to get up the opposite side without having shift in 3rd. The limiter is a scary design.....

I put in a Diablo chip and it seems to take care of the problem on my 4.0 all wheel drive. Of course after I take the speedometer to 95 I can't really tell how much faster I go as the speedo don't go no more.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Sep-02 AT 06:19 PM (EST)]well, I know my '92 XL 3.0L shorty will do 90mph, maybe slightly more. It will cut off if I push it up there too much, but it comes back when it gets down to about 85-80MPH... I think that is what Tom ment when he said you will think you blew up your engine or tranny. really it is just the computer controlling your speed...
Everyday I hit around 85-90MPH on the interstate, it has trouble going up steep hills, and when I go into a strong wind it slows down. Why didn't FORD put a small V8 in it to begin with?
Anyway yes you will bypass the speed limiter if you put in a new chip, but it is my understanding that you have to specifically program the chip to eliminate the speed limiter, correct me if i am wrong though.
With the chip put in have you ever had a friend drive beside you to tell you how fast you are going???? I'm just wondering b/c mine is in the mail I got the Diablo chip, and I really think that with my 210hp I can make some very nice numbers. But silly speedo only goes to 90 grr.

It's a Ranger site, but the info should work with an Aerostar too.
That site tells it all, if only want to hit 100mph i wouldnt mess w/ it b/c it will take you to 97 right now.
