I just got flows with the single in dual out and it sounds great nice tone a plenty of noise. My girlfriend has a 99 cougar with the v6, she has her pipe split after the cats and go to two flowmasters. Hers is just so quite even when you get in to it, it sounds quite. What should be done to make it sound like it actually has flows on it? Should she scrape one of the mufflers and just have a single in dual out? any help would be great.
Is the resonator still there? It is pretty restrictive and quiet. I know, I have a Contour, its the same car as the Cougar they are both built on the CDW27 platform.
Going to single exhaust wont help. IMO, get rid of the resonator, put a single Flow in its place, and y it after the muffler with straight pipe all the way out the back. If you remove the res and put straight pipe in its place, you will have a droning noise at highway speeds that will probably drive you crazy. Also, the exhaust manifolds have pre-cats along with the main cat that makes things pretty quiet.
Tru-bends, MSDS, and others have headers and y pipes that will flow much better than the stock pieces. An aftermarket y pipe will make things a little louder.
Check out NECO.com or contour.org for more exhaust ideas.
