I recently bought a 77 f150 with a swapped in 360/390(it has a 2 barrel, and the guy said it was a 390 but i'm thinking it's a 360) and a 4-spd. The motor is pretty bad and the body needs a lot of work, but I couldn't pass up a running truck that was PA inspected for $300.
I have about $1000 in extra change laying around and plan on buying new body panels/fixing the ones that are on there and building the 460 that my dad got out of an old lincoln. I'll try to get some pictures up over the next weekend.
Great, sounds like a good project. It may be cheaper to replace the 390 rather than find all the extra parts to swap in the 460 - just a thought. Pictures are always a good idea...
Plenty of 390s came as 2barrell, and they sell intakes every day. In the early 80s gas milage was a big deal just like now. Never say never when you up the hood. I would deffinately prefer a 390 than a 460, but thats just my opinion

Why a 390 over a 460? aren't they about the same weight but the 460 more CI? with let's say $1000 a piece in each which one would be more reliable and more powerful? From what I have seen the early 460's were 300+hp and 500 ft.lbs. and i'm not sure what the 390's are, but I will look around this morning.
The 460 came in the 77 so I don't think finding parts would be that hard or expensive. Can you mate the 460 to the 4-spd with granny gear?
