I Have a 1993 Ford Ranger Splash with a v6 4.0
The sticker that tells me what the towing capacity is for that model is gone.
I like to pull a 1989 Cherokee Jeep around 500miles. I do not wish to overdue the truck capacity.
Can anyone tell me the towing or pulling capacity for this truck.
This info is in your owners manual. Depends on the transmission type and axle ratio. Best case is an auto with a 3.73 axle with a combined truck and towed load of about 9,000 lb. For example a manual with a 3.73 axle has a combined truck and towed load of about 7,500 pounds. Another key to the puzzle is your truck type,
4x2,4x4 and Regular or super cab, that determines the weight of your truck.
To Ranger Pats list I would also figure in any "over size" tires you may have added, as this can effectively change the rear end ratio & lower your towing capacity.
So you need to know that, long with the rear end ratio, tranny type, engine size & body style, as Ranger Pat pointed out.
I have a 99 Ranger tow chart for all the combos, so if you'll provide the above info, bet we can all come close to figuring it out.
Standard as in manual transmission? or Standard as in Regular cab, not super cab? A manual transmission regular cab 4.0L with a 3.08 axle ratio has a combined towing capacity of 5000 lbs. With a max recommended tow weight of 1700 lbs.
The same set up with an auto transmission has a combined towing capacity of 6,000 lbs. with a max recommended tow weight of 2,700 lbs.
From the other side of the coin.....500 miles is a day cruise.
Do a FULL service on your truck so it's fresh & ready to go.
Drive nice and calm and always be aware of the extra stopping distance required. Keep the overdrive shut off on up or down grades (you'll get the feel for what's safe). Keep your eyes on the road & you'll do fine.
I've done things with my 97 2.3 5 speed Ranger that would have killed a lesser truck and strained a half ton.
Relax & enjoy the trip!

any hills on the way with steep grades? you using a tow dolly? The truck will tow it..just don't push it! Give the truck a rest every so often to let things cool off and take a break. If you are using a tandem axle trailer..then i wouldn't suggest towing it that far..TOO MUCH combined weight there. If you use a tow dolly make sure to pull the rear drive shaft on the cherokee to save the trans...don't beleive the "put it in Neutral and you'll be fine" ..the cherokees trans don't like to be treated that way.
