Question Bedliner

Which do it yourself bedliner product seems to be the best. The spray on or the roll on? Anyone tried both?

I've used Herculiner. I rolled it on. I was very happy with it. The most important part of appling it is the prep work. It's kinda like painting the better the prep work the better the job will be.
A couple of things that I found useful is to buy one of those paint mixers that goes in your electric drill and use it to mix the liner often because the rubber particles in the liner settle to the bottom quickly. When you buy one of the Herculiner kits there is a Red pad supplied in the kit. It's used to ruff up the surface that you intend to coat. I went to Lowes and bought the same type of pad but one that I could use in my electric drill. It made the job much faster and easier.

I would save your money and have a professional spray it on. My cousin did his himself and it looked great for a year until it started peeling. My opinion is it is worth the extra money to have it done by someone who does this for a living. Then if something goes wrong you can take it back to them and have them fix it!

I got the $40 DupliColor kit from WallyWorld and did it myself last Saturday. I did pretty thorough prep work. But at $40, I can do the thing again 9 times and still be ahead of the game financially, and have something to do on one Saturday each year for the next nine years. I'm pretty happy with the results. I wasn't expecting Rhino thickness, and it's not really a 'non-skid' surface, but I just throw shovels and drywall and stuff back there.

Here is a bit of history: First on the scene were epoxy based products. They were not very durable, they cracked, peeled, etc. Then, ONE-part polyurethane products came along. One-part means that the polyurethane is suspended in a solvent. A catalyst is added which starts a chemical reaction that removes the solvent so that you have just polyurethane left. They were a significant improvement over epoxy based products. Examples of today’s one-part polyurethanes include Herculiner, Duplicolor, and Durabak. The newest technology is TWO-part polyurethanes. Two-part means that a resin (usually a polyol resin) is mixed with isocyanate (a hardener) which renders the polyurethane. Two-part polyurethanes are harder and much more durable than one-part polyurethanes. Two-part polys are used on today’s boats, airplanes, etc. Examples of today’s products that have two-part polyurethanes include LINE-X and Rhino.
