TACH issues???

Anyone ever had a tach go stupid on them... Im not sure what just happened but it was wierd...

I have a SCMT in econ mode...thats it..

I was pulling out onto the highway and needed to get on it...so I did...the truck was pulling good enough so I level out my speed ~65 mph... so I look down and see the tach reading in the red at like almost 5000>>> Now I can hear that the motor is not turning 5000...I step on the brake then tap the gas and It goesright down to like 3000>>>no gear changes or anything occured...so I figure I was sage there... I do not believe I overrevved the motor as It did not sound like it was running high rpms when I saw the problem... BUT after than I slowed way down and then started back on it and everything was fine... I cant recreate the problem.. engine running smooth and normal and tranny seems to be functioning fine...

It's that God forsaken SCMT - that's the cause of ALL Ford's problems.....

I figure it has to be in the speedo....If for some reason the tranny was/did not shift it seems the engine at 5000RPMS would have been howling and I would have gotten some kind of SES lights or elevated temps or funny noises or something...But everything seemed perfect except for the reading on the dash....I guess the oil change coming up will tell me what really happened... hopefully it was a 1 in a milion thing...I may reflash to stock and investigate it for a while in case its a legit problem....

Given that the engine redlines at 4200 RPM or there abouts I really don't think that the engine was turning 5000 RPM.

The tach is electric, so there may have been glitch somewhere in the electrical system.

Well I was slightly exxagerating with 5G...but it was around 4500...But it totally acted like and electrical gremlin... like I said my foot was long off the gas by the time I saw that...every bit of 3 to 4 seconds... by that the motor would have had to have been spinning 6000 or better which I know never happened.. I better check my harnesses and make sure I dont have the wire chafing stuff going on...

And your PCM has now recorded that you over revved the engine and your warranty is now out the window....

J/K - but I'd SURE bring it in for service to get that on a work order for down the road...
