what size tire
I've got an 89 f150 4x4 that had a 2" body lift and 31" BFG All terrains. Well it's about that time to buy new tires and I was wondering how much bigger I can go. I'm pretty sure that 33's will fit, but I'd hate to buy them and then find out that they don't fit. I think I wanna get BFG Mud terrains so I can get a little more traction when I go muddin.

As Fishy says, buy the tires you want, and make the truck fit them. It's not hard to get some extra lift out of your truck to massage some tires in.
Only thing I'd watch out for is going too big for your current gearing. Just my recommendation. 38" ought to require a gear change unless you've already done so for the 31's. Just my peice.

I would get some "real" mud tires except for the fact that my truck is also my daily driver. Eventually I will move up to some big tsl's or mickey thompsons, add an electronic locker to the front and rear axles, move up to 4.56 gears and all that fun stuff and have my truck strictly for off-road use. But for now I guess I'll just have my detroit truetrac in the rear w/ 3.55 gears and 33" BFG Mud terrains, they still fare well on the road but I'll still get great traction in the mud.
