I have a Ford Explorer '94 V6 4.0l . The CEL comes on after driving an hour or so
on highway with either the ac on or towing my trailer. After the CEL comes on
the engine is very weak. I have to floor the throttle to get it going and after a few seconds it starts pulling normaly again.
Any ideas???? Oxygen Sensors?? TP Sensor.
Please help.
Best 1st step, rather than guessing what is triggering the CEL, is to run the EEC-IV self-tests. This effectively asks the computer what fault it detected and allows you to diagnose the problem properly. You can buy a code reader if you like. If you're lucky, the folks at your local Autozone know how to pull OBD-1 codes. Or you can take a paper clip, jumper the self-test input to the self-test output, turn on the key, and read the codes off of the check engine light.
