1988 460 Performance Poor at Temp
I have a 1988 460 EFI. I runs great when I first start it up in the morning. It is in a 11,500lbs motorhome but it will put my back in my seat when it first starts out.
After it comes up to temperature (192 deg. thermostat) it loses some of that initial pep. It still runs well but I can tell there is a loss of power.
I checked codes - none. Entire cooling system is new and temp is at "O" all the time. Flat lands or hills. Lots of other new emission components.
Any ideas???

That seems like a low t’stat for an EFI motor. If the coolant temp does not get up to the correct range then the engine management system thinks it is still warming up and will keep the air/fuel mixture overly rich.
I would confirm that the t’stat needs a 192 and if not put in the correct one. I would not be surprised if it is supposed to have a 210.

192 is spec. for the engine. Some folks recommend a 180 deg. thermostat but I can't say why and haven't found a good source of information as to exactly what happens when the coolant temp is lowered.
