I'm reinstalling the transmission in my 98 2-wd automatic. The bell housing will not completely butt up to the motor. I still have about 1/2 in. gap between them, and i dont wnnt to force it the rest of the way. Any suggestions?
Here are a few, please don't take offense to the most basic (they'll help less experienced)
1. Is the torque converter all the way in? When you get stuck at the 1/2" point, can you spin the torque converter by hand?
2. Is it the right torque converter? A converter too deep will prevent bellhousing to engine mating.
3. Is it the right flex plate? If the torque converter has bolts, do they fit in the flex plate holes?
4. Is the flex plate warped?
No offense taken. Yes, I can turn the converter by hand, but only as far as the fly-wheel will allow. My truck is a 98. I got a used transmission out of a 2000. I've tried both converters and yes the flex plate is warped . But the hessitation to go in is more than a warped plate would cause. I can turn the motor over with a break-over bar with ease except for the last inch or so, then it progressively gets harder. I'll take any suggestions at this point. without offense. Thanks.
