I have noticed the last few days that my 6.0l is having a major problem with Turbo lag! I have to mash the pedal almost to the floor to get the turbo to kick in and get the truck moving. I did not have this problem before and one reason Iam asking about this almost got run over. Is there anthing to do for this? I have not had any work done to the truck. I have just changed the oil. Please help. I have 04 F-350 FX4 Lariat, crew cab, lwb, auto. I have just over 13480 miles on the truck and it is stock! No exhaust, guages, or programmer YET! Thanks of the help that I know will come from such a great site!
Don't take my word for it but, it may not be your turbo. You mentioned that the oil was just changed...check to make sure that you are not over the mid hatch mark on your dip stick.
When you change the oil approx 1.5 quarts is retained in various parts of the engine. Ford now recommends that you refill to the mid hatch area. 13.5 quarts. (Naturally members here at FTE discovered this little fix first.)
BTW: Over filling the oil and some different oil brands can cause other issues as the 6.0 is very sensitive to oil variations.
I am sure that others reading here will have other advise / info. Stand by.
It could be wiring harness chafe, go pedal positon switch.
I am sure you will get some more advice on this. There
are some sharp guys here at the FTE site.

Is it just a lag problem? Meaning, does the truck eventually get moving and otherwise feel normal once you are underway?
If it never feels normal and idles OK but never really develops much power when you press on the go pedel, the blue boost hose may have somehow popped loose while the truck was being serviced.
A couple aftermarket tuners correct this problem by supplying fuel at a low boost pressure. It feels more like driving a gas motor. Smokes a lil more but that's about it.
Man had me worried...now really the hissssssss...it does make a weird sorta noise when you have just a little tiny leak by the hoses...it got REAL LOUD when it blows....but before it will hisssssssesss at ya...still taste like chicken
TXBDBY, Do you have adjustable pedals? There were some fixes early on for that. Like eharman said, a go pedal postion switch. Take it in and get it analyzed.
The oil change was 13.5 qrts! Did it myself, "thanks". The adjustable pedal is not all the way back. There is Not a hissing sound "No snakes in Alaska" I have not checked the blue hose but I will. The truck only lags or fall down and then it will turn the horses out! Thanks for the advice!
Sup guys, I also have somewhat of a lag problem perhaps. Most of the time the truck runs good and turbo kicks on just fine, but sometimes the truck runs great I mean really great, it flies with just little throttle tap I don't have to mash it. I wish my truck would always run like that. Anyhow I also have adj. pedals what does that have anything to do with making my truck run in the "great" mode. Or what could it be? My truck is an 04' cc lariat swb no mods 3600 hwy miles. Help!
Some have suggested that the adjustable pedal "switch/sensor" may be suspect when it is adjusted to the extreme - it is an electronic accelerator (fly by wire if you will)
the term turbo lag as I know it is not a problem...
it is a FUNCTION of the workings of ANY turbo....
at it's simplest, the turbo spins from exhaust pressure which spins an impeller that is mecanically connected to another impellor that packs in the intake air...
you have to build some rpms to get some exhaust pressure...
so it's somewhat like what came first the chicken or the egg...
to get boost, you have to get exhaust, but to get exhaust you have to have some boost....
it doesn't take much, but the boost has to wait on the exhaust
Now size of turbo has a lot to do with the reaction speed... that's why Ford made the variable vane turbo to try to get the best of the small quick responding turbo and the big powerful turbo.... by adjusting the air flow based on loads...
you can also alleviate much of the turbo lag by doing a minbrake stand to get the rpms and boost up...
