Has anyone swapped the grill from a 73-77 into a 78 or 79? It looks like is should bolt right up. I have a 78, but I love the way the older grills look.
A friend of mine put a 73 grill in a 79 model truck a few years back. He changed the radiator support, and from there everything just bolted up. I think it can be done by redrilling a couple of the holes for the headlight buckets without changing the radiator support, but not positive.
from what i've heard the core supports are different from the round to the square headlight trucks. if what i've heard is right, then if your 78 has the round headlights you should be able to use the core. other than that, it should be pretty easy. everything looks like it bolts in the same.
I installed a '79 grill in my '73 and had to drill 2 holes per light - otherwise it was a direct bolt up swap. So I would think it would be the same to put a '73 grill in a '79.
I have done this swap on a 79 bronco and put on a 76 grille. Just had to drill holes for the headlight buckets, it's kinda tough to get them lined up right.
I had a 78 core on my 75, and went to put on the 75 grille, and the headlight mounts did need the 2 holes drilled, and that was about the worst of it. If you have all the pieces that come with, you can compare and make it work, it isn't too bad, but if all you have is a pile of loose parts, it will make it a bit tougher to know exactly what to do.
