I would swap it out with a steering conversion to the 77.5-79 version. They sell it on e-bay. Search under highboy steering. It costs about $850 to convert but it is well worth it. The other option is to remove the garrison type and switch it to manual steering. That is what I did until I can afford the real conversion. Switching to manual is very easy, all you have to do is replace the ram with a manual drag link. It took me about 2 hours to accomplish.
Hey Cheap,
Try contacting Garrison directly, they are in Santa Ana CA www.garrisonmfg.com
they have rebuilt my unit for me on my Peterbilt not cheap but easy. I like the system if it is set up and working right takes the stress off the frame and puts it on the axle.
My '75 F250 had it and it worked great for years no leaks or anything, 78-79 conversion is a good way to go as well. Good luck!
