Thumbs up upgrades

i have a 01 psd i want to get a air intake and some kinda of chip that i can switch levels like from econ to towing to extreme, i know western something has it but anyway. i would like some kinda of ship, stacks, and airintake. anyideas? also off the subject, i work for a excavating compant and we just bought a deer 590 track hoe, some guy flipped it the other a couple weeks ago and died. now it wont run i think the problem is is that the oil got in the pistons. i know its a truck forum but its worth a shot. let me know if you can help.

I would recommend that before you get a chip or tuner that you make the following upgrades first:

1. gauges-before you run anything that is going to increase the power output it is important to be able to monitor the engine so you don't do any damage. I would recommend that you get a pyro (installed pre-turbo), boost, and transmission temp gauges (if you have an automatic). The chip or tuner will increase the temperatures and you will be able to monitor them with these additional gauges.

2. air intake-I have the Tymar and personally believe it's the best, but a lot of other folks have the Ford AIS and are equally happy. Both maintain a high level of filtration while at the same time reducing restriction. More air=cooler temps.

3. aftermarket turbo downpipe and 4" exhaust-this will help you move more air on the other end of the engine. Again, more air=cooler temps.

4. transmission upgrades-many people have installed the Sonnax valve and Tricumulator springs to mechanically firm up shifts. Many chips or tuners also do this electronically. Regardless, if you have an auto you want to limit torque convertor slippage so the transmission will not overheat and prematurely fail.

5. chip/tuner

The temptation is to add power first, but all these other mods will help to ensure than your engine can handle the additional power safely.

Good advise on the upgrades.

Off the subject- Does the engine turn over? It's a diesel, if there is oil in the cylinders is should just start.

Yep, johnsdiesel has it listed out the way it should be. It's tough to spend the money on gauges and not get any performance from them, but once you get them you'll be happy you did.
I wouldn't think that oil in the cylinder would keep it from starting. Since it's a compression engine, and as long as there is some diesel being injected, it should fire and burn the oil out. Give more information about the engine and we might be able to figure it out.

On your question about the track-hoe. If there is oil in the pistons it will NOT turn over it will just hydrolock. posibbly bending a rod.

Being that he flipped it it probably ran till it died, caused by no fuel, if this did happen it almost surely fried the injection pump.

have you checked to see that it is getting fuel, if it turns over. If it ist even turning over I would suspect that the oil drained into the cylinders and it hydro locked.

We had a guy flip a terra gator out here. It had a 3208 cat in it and we had to let it sit over nite before all the oil had drained out of the intake manifold.
