Just finished insalling stack on my 99 superduty. I used 4" stainless pipe and made my own balance pipe for in the box. 1 pipe up through the box and turns into a t shape. Sounds great. No muffs. Not to loud in my oppinion either. It does have a good snap when you come on to it though. I'll try and post some pics. Its a simple setup and works great!
im working on stacks for my powerstroke. just wondering how you got from the factory exhaust pipe location into the bed. mandrel bent or preformed ells? or did you have a shop bend them??? just wondering. any help or input is appretiated. pictures would be great. please include a picture of the pipe under the bed also if possible. everyone leaves this one out and it would be a big benefit for those of us working on the same project!! thanks
Above is the name of my new gallery. I hope this will help people with there installation of there stacks!! Sorry the truck is so dirty!! Lancers SD is the name.
thanks for the time. im gonna start mine in the next week or so. ill post my results when i finish!!! thanks
one more question - do you notice any differance since you probably have slightly more exhaust coming out of the pass. side stack than out of the drivers side one. just wondering if i should try to equalize them or not. your help is greatly appretiated
ive been looking on ebay. there is a company on there called vertex. they sell stainless steel tubing from 1" to 6" by the foot. i think im gonna order tubing from them and make my stacks from that. they have the best price ive been able to find. if you want stacks with a slant cut or turned on the end like big rigs have youll need to order them. you can get them from almost any supplier of exhaust tips. good luck and let us know what you decide.
Don't notice any difference in the amount of exhaust out either pipe at all. Same amount of smoke out either pipe when i fire her up in the morning. If you want to center it you'll be over the drive shaft and i don't think there would be enough room. I put my down pipe inline with the exhaust pipe going to the back. Nice straight hook up with only one bend. By the way, about 4"s on either side were the down pipe meets the cross pipe i drilled a drain hole. There 3/8" and i used a round punch to bend them down. I'll try to put a diagram in my gallery so you can see what i mean. The dp goes into the cp about 1/4" to stop water. P.S I bought a 10' chunk of stainless and cut the 45* angles in a chop saw. Good to all on there insalls!!
I ordered it through an exhaust shop that belongs to my buddies uncle. I had to buff it to make it shine but cheaper than pre made chrome stacks and tougher to!!!
The stainless pipe cost about $200 and the aluminized pipe cost about $70. I live in canada and a set of chrome stacks cost about $500 minimum as far as i know. Good luck. If you do a search for stacks in the exhaust forum there is on post that has a web site that sell all types of metal. I went on it and they have a great selection of pipe and have the price per foot as well!!
