Hi
Have a 86 Aerostar Automatic Transmission that just quit.Slowed down to take a corner and Transmission just died.Seemed to operate fine up till then.Have no movement in all gears.Linkage to Trans still operative.Fluid level fine . Level changes when motor not running and running so pump must still be working. No abnomal noises ,Just Quit. Anyone have an Idea whats happened?
Thank CJasper
If the torque converter has stripped the splines, it would be wise to flush (or just replace) the transmission lines and the tranny cooler. Any metal left in there will find its way back to the transmission and could cause more problems.
I hope I'm not asking a dumb question, but how could metal from the spines get into the tranny? I'm assuming these are the splines that the torque converter slips onto over the transmission "input" shaft but I'm not all that familiar with these setups.
