Front Windshield Defrost/Defogger doesn't work....
This is my first time posting here as I've just found this site, I've searched through all the backpages and was not able to find an answer/solution to my query which is as follows:
The front windshield defogger/defroster doesn't work. When I move the right dash switch from off to Vent wind comes out and depending on the temp setting it's either hot/cold as it should be. When I move the fan switch from LO to middle to HI it increases or decreases appropriately. So wind does come out strong, and the temp is right so that's fine, the problem is when I go from VENT to HEAT to MIX or to DEFROST (the little window pic) the wind doesn't cycle through, or change at all for that matter. The air just comes through the vents at every setting instead of going to the back of the dash to the front window to defrost or defog it. I do not have A/C don't know if that makes a difference or not....
My local mechanic tried putting in a new gauge switch cluster but the problem remained, he also tried replacing the fan motor, but that did nothing....
I own a 1988 Aerostar, short version, it's the 3.0L Automatic. It has 76,046 miles on it. Mechanically it has been great, always started through many storms here in Montreal, Canada. It still pulls very hard and I don't have a light foot. I change the oil every 2500 miles and change appropriate fluids accordingly. The sliding door is harder to close now and the rear door lock is broken other than that it's fine. I've repainted her 3 years ago, so she looks and runs great except for my above problem. Any ideas/suggestion would be most appreciated.
