Stock part question, need to know! overheating problems
I need to know if an 83 ford f150 XLT model with the 4.9 straight 6 comes with a c6 tranny and if the truck comes stock with an overflow tank. The tranny is just something I was wondering but my truck tends to over heat when sitting still for a while. I went to check the water level on it and my radiator cap wont come off and the went to check the overflow tank and noticed it didn't have one. Did this truck come stock with one? Also did this truck come stock with a fan shroud? There wasnt one on it and saturday I got one on it with the same problems. Thanks

The tranny could be a C6 but it probably is a C4, and yes these trucks came with a overflow tank (wiper washer and overflow tank are a single plastic container with a divider to seperape the washer fluid and antifreeze. Also with the rad cap you have to push it down pretty good and then turn it to get it off, if this isn't the problem you might want to take it to a rad shop and see what the problem is.

A bad radiator cap, no fan shroud, bad fan clutch, timeing, along with the water pump and several other things will all contribute to makeing one run hot. I have found that an auto trans that's in need of service will also do the same thing.
