Halfdone, well, the kids are grown, so there would be not child support unless the dog needed it, but he's almost too old for that and that isn't even in dog years. Nice to hear from someone down under.

David, have fun with the truck and don't be afraid to ask the questions. Isn't it great how these old trucks bring us all together.

I have to admit that I have learned a ton here just by being quiet and reading the threads. I am also a first time builder. Picked up the truck about 4 years ago, and just got the motor replaced a week or so ago. That was outside of my capability, (and tool ownership) for sure. I want to make it a daily driver before I get to all of the body work, and my next expendatures will be on tightening up the bushings, etc., in the suspension system. Well, that and make sure that the tail lights work all of the time. If I am smart enough, I will even try to start a gallery this weekend. Thanks for all of the input.

TO: 56JEFF, you left a comment in my gallery, but I can not find you from that. I have the info on the brake system if you need it. I don't think it can be listed in my gallery, but I can email to you. The unit is in stock at Denver Specialty Center ( Tim Spicer ) Yes, the hood will close, the eng is not that high, but high enuf to reach the dipstick and such without straining myself.

forgive me for not knowing but what the H*ll do the letters COE stand for. And I expect if it were a snake I would be dead already but I had to ask anyway.

COE reminds me that when I was a kid we didn't know thats what they were called. They were always called stubnosed trucks. That seems to have a better ring than COE, but maybe a negative connotation.

bed sides

Not being a time is money type person! The bed I took off my truck is in very good shape aside from the fact that it looks like somebody beat the bed sides out with a ballpeen. Was wondering if any one had ever tried and was sucessful at cutting the rails off where they meet the bed side and having a new piece of sheet metal cut to size??

If you don't mind the total of 26 feet of welding seam to smooth, there's no reason why that couldn't turn out just fine. I would buy new stake pockets though. They are going to get hurt by the time you remove all those spot welds.
