I have run into a small problem with my emergency brake cables. One was frayed and I can't get a replacement from Chrysler (87 Chrysler 5th Avenue rear end). NAPA had one but it was quite different from the original. I could use it if I had to, but I'd have to get two of them (at $24 each) to make them match. What I am wondering is if just about any cable could be used. Most all of them attach to the back shoe the same way and since this truck is not original anyway, the length or the way it connects back to the handle isn't a big deal. I wonder if I could even use Ford rear wheel E-brake cables like off an 8 or 9 inch rear. Has anyone gotten in to this? I just need an inexpensive fix. Perhaps someone out there has a cable left over from their suspension donor car or a junk rear end? These things are hard to find here in the NE where the salt rusts everything...
Hey Vern, Comin' from the hot rod side of this hobby I know that Lokar www.lokar.com makes a bunch of E brake cable stuff. I don't know about prices but, I think that they deal with Jegs and the other mail order places. have fun,Smokey

Thanks Smokey,
I was already looking at the possibility of using a Lokar E-brake handle. Maybe they have the cables too, but I know they will be expensive.
Hey Vern, what supplier did John N. use in his tech article? After all the free publicity, maybe they would give you a deal. On mine, the lines were way too long for the short run under my bed. So I looped them through eye bolts and secured with three cinch nuts on each side. I figure it has to be at least as safe as aftermarket cables. (I've heard of several that had the metal ends just pop off. Good luck, John
