Im needing a trans. rebuild. What upgrades are available for my E4OD and what would be a fair price? Does someone offer a powerhouse trans.? What should I expect to pay? Im also looking to install front(selectible), and rear(full time) lockers any suggestios are WELCOME!
I can't help you with your transmission problems. I can tell you I have gone thru alot of them though. Once you build your engine it seems like these trannys can not handle power worth a crap compared to the good ol C6.
For front lockers run ARB, and rear locker Detroit.
What kind of a vehicle are you referring to? Lets hear some details!
Not knowing what kind of truck we're talking about here or what it will be used for, I'll say generically that I would go with either a Powertrax LockRight or NoSlip or a Detroit Locker or EZ Locker in the rear and some kind of limited slip in the front, possibly a PowrLok or TrueTrac.
92 f150 with a 300 I6. The truck Is primarily a hunting truck but the reason I am considering a front selectible locker is that it is in excellent condition other than a torque converter, so the option of driving it daily exists. I am looking to beef up the truck, change the 3.55s to something a little stouter. the 3.55s seemto be bogged by my 33 super swampers.
I had a '92 that I had a powertrax up front and it worked alright. In my opinion it didn't engage at times when it needed to, and when climbing rocks it isn't very good either.
With a set of 4.10 gears it would change your current gear ratio from 3.23 to 3.73. Or a change to 4.56 gears would give you a ratio of 4.15.
So, if it was me I would go with the 4.56 gears to keep that 300 in its powerband at all times.
Since the 6 cylinder revs lower than the V8's, I think I would go with 4.10's instead of 4.56's with 33's, especially if you have no overdrive gear in the trans and are using it as a driver. I have 4.56's with 33's in my truck with a 351 and a C6 (no overdrive, no lock-up torque converter) and it's geared pretty low. I would like an overdrive in it, but chose 4.56's because I needed all the gearing help I could get for towing with this wimpy 351. If I wasn't towing with it I would have gone with 4.10's and have less of a need for an overdrive gear. If you have overdrive and a lock-up converter, the 4.56's would probably work ok for you with 33's and the 6-cylinder. You would have the option of going to 35's if it ends up being too low with 33's.
My LockRight locks up pretty good in the rear axle. I don't do rock crawling with my CrewCab LongBed truck though...
