What locker where?

I was thinking about putting a locker in one of my axles (1967 f100 4x4). Which axle and what brand do you reccomend? I have a dana44 up front and a 9" in the rear. This truck isn't a daily driver. It goes out to play every so often and I drive in a lot of snow. I was thinking a selectable locker in the front.

Smile Powertrax!!!

I would use a POWERTRAX. You can put it in yourself with 3 or 4 common tools and it is under $300. I did it so I am sure you can too. I got mine from Mike at: http://www.completeoffroad.com/
Also I would put it in the back and leave the front alone. If you have lockout front hubs then you could put another in the front and if need be then you could lock only ONE hub. My ranger cannot (yet) have lockouts so I have left the front alone.

weld the front and put a detroit auto locker in the rear! you won't find anything that's less simple yet more reliable than this setup!

With only one locker, I would put it in the back.

I have the Powertrax LockRight in the rear axle of the F350 and am very happy with it. It was about $250 cheaper than a Detroit Locker for the same axle and accomplishes the same thing by the same method.

I left the front axle standard open because I couldn't justify the added expense of a locker or limited slip in the front axle for my use of the truck. So far I haven't been in a situation where I found myself wishing for a front locker. If I'd had the money, I would have put a limited slip of some kind in the front axle, just for the hell of it.

In the Bronco, I have limited slips front and rear and am happy with that combination for most off road uses, though rock crawling would be alot better with front and rear lockers. I do intend to lock up both ends at some point in the future.

Detroit rear and ARB front...I have ARB's in both front and rear of my F350 but I drive on the pavement more than you. You will have to be careful and take some time to learn driving in the snow with a rear locker.

Ain't that the truth! I've been running detroits for years and I still looped it out last winter. In a sense, a spool is preferrable in slick situations because it is 100% predictable where a detroit can still throw you a curve ball. If I was made of money I'd have a selectable front and rear (one day...). If I only drove off-road I'd spool it front and rear. Detroits are a pretty good compromise. If you can only put one in one axle I'd put it in the rear as well.
