I have a 2001 2.5 Ranger 5 speed manual. 2x4. 80K miles. I had the alignment done in March of this year and I'm due for new front tires any day now (next week when I get paid!). I was driving at about 65-70 mph on the freeway, I was right about the halfway point on a 60 mile drive, when I hit a smooth patch. That's how roads are in MI... you don't hit rough spots... you hit smooth ones... Anyway, This patch lasted maybe 10 miles and almost as soon as the road got smooth, my whole truck started to vibrate... almost as if it were not balanced right. I called up a friend of mine and he's pretty sure it's the alignment. I'm trying not to worry too much about it because I'm going to get new tires and an alignment within the next couple of weeks, but if anybody else has experienced this and it's not what I'm assuming it is, input is appreciated! Oh... also, I need to get new brake pads... any suggestions?
An alignment problem will not cause a vibration. Bad front end parts can cause a steering wheel or to cause the truck to wander but not a vibration. Your vibration is more then likely caused by a tire out of balance or a bubble on one. replace the tires and I bet it goes away. High speed on the car balancing is best, that is where they spin the wheel and tire right on the truck. Hope this helps
