I was driving past a local used car lot the other day, and saw one sitting out front, an '88 Mustang GT converible-based McLaren. Silver, mint condition, low miles, $9850. I used to have an '88 GT convertible, always liked the McLaren. I really shouldn't get it, but I can afford it (barely) right now, and keep thinking about it. The main turn-off for me is the automatic trans, of course I can swap in a 5-speed, though it's a bit of a PITA. I know that a Mustang GT of the same vintage and in the same condition around here would go for about $3500-4500. Does anyone know anything about the McLaren, and is this a good price? -TD
I looked at it a little closer, it's not quite as mint as I thought. It's been repainted, and not all that great a job, has 81K on the odo, don't know if that's rolled over or not. The leather is not bad for 16 years old, but there are some signs of wear, it needs some Neatsfoot oil for sure. I don't know, as much as I like it just for the limited production factor, it's just not in my thoughts all the time like it was at first. Do you know if they had any suspension and performance mods, or was it it all just dress-up stuff? -TD
