My 97 Aerostar was broken into for the forth time since I have owned it. The method of entry is to pop the sliding door window with a screwdriver. This gives acces to the door handle and from there they just open door and take what they want. My question has two parts, one is how many other people have had this happen, as I see lots of Aerostars will what I call the screwdriver bulge on the sliding door window, and two what if anything has anyone done to solve this method of entry short of a alarm system?
I have found that my 85 lb. dobie is pretty good at keeping miscreants at bay. The down side of this form of protection is that she leaves dog hair all over the seats, there are nose prints on every window and she tends to lick your face while you are driving.
I wish I had a better answer because I have had a similar problem with the side window on my Ranger. My vehicles sleep inside now.
I made a solid oak bar with a metal edge that slips between the lock mecanism and the rear sliding window. It jams in there and you are unable to break into it. If you want to open it, you just slide the rod out from the inside and its ready for use. My van was broken into at least twice, not since i put the bars in though
