87 aerostar breaks help!!!!!!!!!

my 87 aerostar had break lines rusted out in back. so i replaced them. also i put new wheel cylinders, shoes, etc. on the rears.new pads up front.pushed pistons back after opening bleeders. bled the rears. after that i still had a soft pedal with barely any breaks at all, then i put a new master cylinder in, still the same.it will pump up after you pump it about 15 times. then nothing, like mush with it barely grabbing at the very end. i drove the van with only fronts working, after the initial line breakage and soft pedal, the pedal felt firm again. even with a broken line no fluid leaked out after a while.which i felt was weird. what do i need to do? can it be the proportioning valve? where is it located at? can it be the problem? thanks

87 aerostar breaks help!!!!!!!!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Dec-02 AT 03:46 PM (EST)]You travel distance on the brake pedal is determined by one thing "rear brake self-adjusters". This may seem stupid but pull up and down on the emergency brake, this should tighten them up and reduce travel distance on the pedal. If that doesn't work then I have no idea what it could be. I have 113k on my 88 and have only changed the rear brakes once. The rear adjusters just don't work that great.

Good luck
