moter swap
hey guys sweet forum i have a 1988 ford xtra cab ranger 2x4 and a 1991 explorer 4x4 the ranger is a 5 speed and the explorer is auto. I would like to put the 4.0 out of the explorer in to the ranger and would like to know what problems i may encounter, any info would be helpful on this thanx ton

Plan on having to get the wiring harness associated with the 4.0 in the Ranger. You will also have to use the ECM for the 4.0, but if you use the ECM from a vehicle with an automatic in a 5 speed application, I'd expect the CEL to come on. If I were you, I'd get wiring diagrams for your current setup and for a 4.0 Ranger (say a 1993) and see what you will have to modify.
Other thoughts are: 1) is the existing fuel pump going to deliver sufficient volume for the 4.0, 2) emission system changes/swaps, and 3) exhaust system.
