help with trouble code

have code 628,excessive converter clutch slippage. Do I need a new t/c or could it be something simple I need to check first? 1991 f150 4.9l e40d

I am getting the same code, and my transmission (E4OD) shifts hard too. Just started doing this, resetting the computer fixes it temporarily. Transmission is fine then, so i'm thinking just replacing the t/c should fix it, or could this be electrical? Been searching forums for awhile but didnt see where anyone just replaced the t/c. Has anyone has already done this. I have always seen that the whole tranny has been rebuilt. I am a college student so my funds are very limited. . Like i said, it just started happening, fluid is not burnt and i already tried fluid change. thanks
