Snow Plowing, FEE?

Hey guys, was thinking of getting a snow plow for my truck! You guys that have them, how much do you charge for plowing? What do you base it on, size
of lot/driveway or just time?

Just wanted to get a rough idea!!

Thanks

Going rate around here is $55-60/hr. for pick-ups with plows, with a 1/2 to 1-hour minimum. The drawback is that the snow really isn't reliable enough to pay for the plow and the damage plowing does to trannies (unless you have a stick, but who wants to shift that much while plowing?).

Also, if your going to be for hire, then you had better get some liability insurance. $300,000 min, $1,000,000 recommended.

Yeah, watch out for curbs, potholes, drain covers, etc. We charge $100 an hour for plowing. I am very good to my truck and don't abuse it. IMHO an automatic is MUCH better for plowing than a manual. I saw this guy plowing once and he was using a manual tranny. About half way through the parking lot he gave up. He was wrecking his clutch. You could SMELL IT! Just be nice to your truck and don't get rammy....take your time.

I am glad that I don't have to worry about snow except for the 100 year storm. I had that so I am safe now.

I am not too woried about the fact i have a manual trans, i jockey heavy trailers around alot and a lot of people say that must be hard on the clutch, but i have gotten used to it, so i am not concerned. Talked to one truck equiper today, said my truck is a very good truck to plow with, 97 F-250 HD reg cab 460ci 4x4.
He said the Diesel is nice for the power but its a bit heavy for the front axle with the plow on.

I get 85/ hour for me and the truck. I dont do any drive ways for under 25$. Any thing that takes more than 5-8 pushes on averge strom, i get more for. I have a auto, and like it. But have used a stick, and its not so bad. Your leg will get tired, no way around that.
Go easy and take your time. It is not hard to push snow, just hard to push alot of it. Take it in moveabel swipes. About half your plow width, on 6 inches or more.
Put some good tunes on, heat up, window down, and go for it.

Exactly........ The only problem I have when plowing is that the cable for the Defrost, panel, mix selector is broken, so I have to do it manually. Maybe I will get it fixed before winter....but probably not!
