Hey guys as you now i had to wire up a new ignition ( on my 1979 F100) cause the old one was cut out. Well i got it to start right up regular without jimmy rigging anything. But my battery dies overnight. I think i have a short or something. Well i was wondering if anyone knows what the two yellow thick wires are on the ignition plug i think those might be the problem? Thanks if you can help?
I don't think it matters which one they go to. I am looking at a 1980 diagram, and the two yellow wires go to a common splice in the harness where they are soldered to one yellow that goes out to the fusible link at the starter relay.
Hook up a test light just like the diagram above, with a good charged battery. If the light glows bright, you do have a drain.
The first thing to do is disconnect the alt output wire. If the light goes out, then your alt is the source of the problem.
If it still glows bright, then you can start pulling fuses. If one of the fuses makes the light go out, then that's your drain, and you can investigate from there.
i resently changed the wiring harness in the dash and disconected the alt. and the light was still on is there any thing else that could be shorting out? thanks
