So many choices, so little money. I have a 1998 expedition EB 4x4 with a 5.4l with 4.10 gears and 82kmi. It's bone stock except for the k&n filter in the stock air box. I would appreciate any info. in what I should do first. I was loking at a diablo sport chip or a superchip programmer (???), headers, cat-back, volant intake, mass-air upgrade, and a throttle body. I will be doing all of these eventually but would like some feedback on any/all of these modifications. Along with what anyones' opinion is on the order that I should install them. What is the best bang for the $$$ for now in other words. thanks JJ
I have a 1998 with a few mods and I would have to say the Superchip Flash Module or the Flip Chip would be your best first choice. The 1998 Expy cannot use all the features of the Tuner like recalibration of the speedo for larger tires. Unfortunately, we still have the old analog odometer/speedo. 1999 was the first year for the electronic versions which make the tuner perfect to get.
The Flip Chip (flips between regular and super premium gas requirements) is what I would recommend.
Intake is okay, not really the big gain I thought it would be. Exhaust would be my choice for the next goodie. Gibson or Flowmaster Catback Systems are the most popular choices.
The best bang for your buck in my opinion is a Superchip. Just the regular blue chip, which you can get on Ebay much cheaper than new (ex. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33597). Then you can just get it reprogrammed online or at a local speed shop for about $35. You will notice an immediate difference in throttle response and firmer shifting. I'd definitely go with the Superchip first, then move on to intake and exhaust.
A blue Superchips module isn't as good choice these days it used to be unless you put price before the most power, best availability, more dealer support and 4 bank programming. It only has one bank programming (everyone else in the industry has moved to 4 bank) and only one program setting. Plus Superchips has officially dropped blue chip support (call them, even they won't reprogram them for you!) and fewer dealers even want to mess with them anymore. For two bills are you get a 2 stage Diablo chip that upgrades to 3 stages or for just over 3 bills you can get a Superchips Custom (not the same as Superchips) chip with 5 stages plus a kill switch.
If you glanced at my sig, I have the single program flash module which I purchased off of eBay for $50 and had Motorhaven (our wonderful hosts) reprogram it for me.
I sometimes can't find the 93 octane gas that the chip needs, so I mix up my own octane booster, but that is another story.
