I'm trying to hook up a couple of gauges and I need to know how to get power only while the ignition is on. Does anyone know the easiest way to do this?
Hey Jefferys.
What are you hooking up, does it require a lot of amps? You can tie into the fues box by using a fuse tap that slips onto a fuse, then just plug the fuse back in. Make sure you use a fuse thats hot only when the key is on. With a test light, and the fuse you select removed, put the tap on the side that does not have power (with key on)
You can mount a relay under the hood that is activated with the key on, and just pull a wire to the cab where you need it. We use the relay method for our shop trucks radios. It saves a lot of jump starts on monday AM.
I'm trying to add a couple of guages, and a oil cooler w/fan. The fan draws about six amps. That idea will work perfect for my guages, now all I need to do is find a power source for the fan.
