Hi all. New to forum. I tried another forum but no one seems to respond. Hoping to get some answers here. Just picked up an 87 150 and have found the following few problems. (Chilton no longer has a "troubleshooting" section...taking that POS back). Anyway here we go...
No heat. AC blows cold, but there's no heat. Possible problems and fixes?
Power sterring hose has a leak. Leaking fluid. When turning I get a loud squealing noise. Obviously from the power steering. Should I just replace the pump and hose? Thanks again.
No heat?
I would first look at the thermastat. It may need to be replaced.
The squeeling is your power steering pump. It does this when air kets into the system. If it squeals alot then I would change the hose & pump, if it squeals a little then quits while turning then just replace the hose & fill the resivoiur.
Check where the cable for the heater duct flap is behind the glove box. The clip holding the end of the cable sleeve can slip keeping it from operating the flap that steers/mixes either "heater core air" or "AC/ air" into the cab. They can come off at the control panel end too I think. Or the wire could be broken as well.
It seems like most people's get stuck on heat and think their AC is broken.
So I have the truck in the shop checking out my power steering leak. The mechanic tells me that the leak is coming from the switch. Here's the kicker, the switch wasn't on the 87 F150. They weren't included until the 91's.
